The definition of obesity is not same for all it depends on what one read. In general, obesity and overweight indicate a weight which is greater than what is
considered healthy.

Obesity is a chronic condition which is defined by an excess amount of body fat. A fixed amount of body fat is necessary for heat insulation, shock absorption, storing energy, and other functions.

People are generally considered as obese when their (BMI) body mass index, is over 30 kg/m2, with the range 25–30 kg/m2 defined as overweight. Some East Asian countries use lower values of BMI.

The (BMI) body mass index is calculated using a person’s weight and height.Since BMI describes body weight relative to height, A BMI of 18.5-24.9 is considered normal weight.
If an adult has a BMI of 25-29.9 is considered as overweight, and an adult who has a BMI greter than 30 is considered obese.

Obesity is normally caused by a combination of lack of physical activity, excessive food intake, and genetic susceptibility.

A few number of cases are caused by endocrine disorders, genes, mental illness medications.
Some Evidences are support the view that even the obese peoples are eat little but they gain weight due to a slow metabolism process of their body.

On average bases, obese people have a greater energy expenditure than thin person’s due to energy required to maintain an increased body mass.





Now Obesity is increasing in adults and children at very fast rate. And it becomes a leading preventable cause of death worldwide.

Obesity is not it itself is diseases it also a reason of various diseases particularly like type 2 diabetes, heart disease, certain types of cancer, obstructive sleep apnea etc.

In 2014, 42 million children under the age of five and 600 million adults (13%) were obese. Obesity is more commonly find in women than men.

It is become one of the most serious public health problems of the 21st century. In 2013, the American Medical Association classified obesity as a disease.

Obesity is preventable through various method which one is a combination of social changes and personal choices. daily exercising and Changes to diet are the main treatments.

Change to diet means diet quality will be improved by decreasing the consumption of energy-dense foods, such as those high in sugars and fat,and by increasing the intake of dietary fiber. Medications can be taken, along with a suitable diet for a better result.
