Blood Pressure:- Overview

When we discuss about health and wellness, one topic come up very often is Blood pressure.People are concerned about their Blood pressure. That is why we hear this sentence all the time, “I am having blood pressure”. The fact is, we all have blood pressure and people suffer when this pressure is not optimum. When there is abnormal blood pressure reading, people suffer from high blood pressure or low blood pressure. There are many people who are suffering from these blood pressure issues. Although it depends how you can control your BP and regulate it, there are also many cases where heredity plays an important role.

  •  The arterial pressure that is exerted on the circulatory system is known as blood pressure. In simple terms, the circulating blood exerts a kind of pressure on the walls of the blood vessels. This pressure is known as blood pressure.
  • Just imagine, water flowing through a pipe. There is some amount of pressure exerted by the water on the inside wall of the pipe. This can be compared to the blood pressure in simple terms for better understanding.
  • Blood pressure is measured in systolic (maximum) pressure over diastolic (minimum) pressure and its unit is mm Hg. Blood pressure is regarded as one of the vital signs of the healthy body. The normal range of Blood pressure is 120/80mm Hg.
  • The blood pressure of a person varies in regards to diseases, activity and many more such things. The nervous system and the endocrine system regulate the blood pressure.

There are two numbers in Blood pressure readings, the top number and the bottom number or the systolic (maximum) pressure and diastolic (minimum) pressure. There are different types of blood pressure depending on the ranges. There are many people who are suffering from blood pressure all over the globe.

When the ranges are higher than 140/90, this condition is known as high blood pressure. In this case, there are two numbers and both are equally important. If any of the two is high, you have high blood pressure. In the case of high blood pressure, there are two stages.

Similarly, when the ranges are low then it is termed as low blood pressure. According to some studies there is more classification of blood pressure and some of them are as follows – High blood pressure or Hypertension increases the risk of heart disease and stroke. In the UK itself, there are 30% people of the total adult population with Hypertension. There are rare symptoms and that is why most of the people don’t even realize of having it. There are many causes of Hypertension. Obesity, alcohol abuse and smoking are some of the causes. It is also genetic. In case you have someone in your family suffering from Hypertension, you need to take care of your health and diet for the future. High blood pressure is also known as arterial hypertension.
